Meerut: A joint operation by the police in Uttar Pradesh and the Special Task Force uncovered duplicate copies of books printed by the government's National Council of Educational Research and Training. Twelve arrests have been made but the key figure behind the illegal copies - Sachin Gupta - is on the run.
A police officer in Meerut, Ajay Shahni said, "The Joint Team recovered Rs 35 crores worth NCERT books and printing machines.
Media reports said 1.5 laks copies of illegally printed school books were found during the police search.
During the initial investigation, we came to know that these books were being sold in Delhi, Uttarakhand and other places in illegal ways."
