Varanasi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi's younger brother Pankaj Modi on Friday performed the Pinddaan ritual of his late mother Heeraben in Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi, sources said. Heeraben passed away on 30 Dec. last year at the age of 99. Sources said that PM Modi's brother Pankaj Modi arrived in Varanasi late on Friday evening.
Later in the evening, Pankaj Modi along with Brahmins of Kashi performed the Pinddaan ritual of his late mother at the famous Dashashwamedh Ghat of Kashi. Head priest Raju Jha completed all the rituals at Dashashwamedh Ghat. Sources said that Pankaj Modi prayed with moist eyes for the peace of Hiraben's soul.

Pertinentlly, Pankaj Modi is the youngest of the siblings of PM Modi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has four brothers and one sister. The eldest of the siblings is Sombhai, followed by Amrit Bhai, Prime Minister, Prahladbhai, sister Vasantiben and the youngest Pankaj Modi. It can be recalled that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mother Heeraben passed away at a the U N Mehta Heart Hospital in Ahmedabad on Dec. 30 last year a day after she was admitted to the hospital.
Soon after his mother's death, PM Modi had had reached Gujarat directly from Delhi. PM Modi visited the residence of his brother Pankaj Modi at Raysan village on the outskirts of Gandhinagar. Later, PM Modi along with his siblings performed Heeraben's last rites at a crematorium in Gandhinagar. PM Modi and his brothers shouldered her mortal remains for some distance before placing them in a mortuary van.
