New Delhi: A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking issuance of suo moto contempt proceedings against the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, for making statements supporting gangster Vikas Dubey and his aides' encounter when the matter pertaining to investigation is seized before the top court.
The petition has been filed by Advocate Ghanshyam Upadhyay, who had earlier sought CBI enquiry into the encounter and in a subsequent plea, he urged reconstitution of the Judicial Enquiry Commission probing the matter.
Upadhyay contended that the matter of the investigation is still pending before the court and yet the CM made statements at a private news channel "supporting and justifying the killing of 6 accused".
"Statements made by Adityanath "tantamount to challenge and defy the authority and majesty" of the apex court and thereby lowering the dignity and image in public," read the petition.
