Nurses strike hampers medical services at Lajpat Rai Hospital in Kanpur

Healthcare services were severely affected at the Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital Uttar Pradesh's in Kanpur today after the staff nurses launched a cease-work strike to demand better facilities and remunerations. Lajpat Rai Hospital is a designated Covid-19 hospital. Nearly 150 nurses continued their protest inside the hospital premises.

Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh):Healthcare facilities in Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital Uttar Pradesh's in Kanpur got affected on Wednesday as the outsourcing staff nurses are on a strike demanding the regularisation of their jobs and adequate remunerations.

According to sources, on Wednesday, hundreds of nurses and outsourced staff at the Lajpat Rai Hospital in Kanpur continued their strike to demand better facilities and remunerations. Lajpat Rai Hospital is a designated Covid-19 hospital. Nearly 150 nurses continued their protest inside the hospital premises.

The agitating nurses, however, in no mood to call off the strike unless the Hospital administration fulfils their three-point charter demands.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, one of the protesting nurses, Swati said, "We are protesting for the regularisation of our jobs and adequate remunerations. Today, we have sat on a dharna. The administration had assured us a salary revision but it is not fulfilling its promise. We have no other option than to protest."

"We are demanding permanent employment for those who have worked for more than four years, hike in basic pay. Outsourcing nurses will be on strike until our demands are met. We are only getting Rs 6,000 and it is not adequate for us. We are also demanding other benefits like ESI, PF, etc but our repeated pleas have fallen on the administration's deaf ears," said another nurse, Farha Naaz.

Notably, patient care has got severely affected as the agitating nursing staff were engaged in the strike.
