Non-bailable warrants against Rita Bahuguna Joshi, Raj Babbar, 7 others

On 17 August 2015, the Congress party had a sit-in demonstration at the Lakshman Mela. Suddenly, all the accused leaders along with about 5000 workers came out of the dharna and gathered near the Vidhan Bhavan. Attempts were made to convince and prevent them from gathering, but they did not stop and started throwing stones near the building causing a stampede.

Lucknow:Lucknow's special MP-MLA court has ordered the issuance of non-bailable warrants against nine people, including BJP MP Rita Bahuguna Joshi, Congress leaders Raj Babbar and Pradeep Jain Aditya.

The order has been given by the special judge Pawan Kumar Rai for the assault on the police force during sit-in demonstration and being absent while the hearing of the case. A notice has also been served to the bail holders of the accused. Apart from this, the court has issued a show-cause notice to the Hazratganj police station for not serving the warrant in this case.

Summoning the Hazratganj Station house officer (SHO) to the court on December 8, the apex body has demanded an explanation from him as to why the court's order was not complied with.

Attempts were made to convince and prevent them from gathering, but they did not stop and started throwing stones near the building causing a stampede.

ADM Eastern Nidhi Srivastava, SP East Rajiv Malhotra, CO Traffic Avnish Mishra, SHO Alambagh Vikas Pandey and SO Hussainganj Shivshankar Singh, along with several other police officers and several PAC personnel were seriously injured in the stampede.

The general public coming to and from Ashoka Marg also suffered injuries. Law and order were broken. After deliberation, the police had filed a charge sheet against the 18 accused under several serious sections of the IPC and the Criminal Law Amendment Act and an FIR of this case was lodged by SI Pyarelal Prajapati at Hazratganj police station.

Rita Bahuguna Joshi at the time used to be in the Congress.
