Diwali: Muslim family sets tone for religious harmony

On the eve of Diwali, a Muslim family in Aligarh worshipped Lakshmi-Ganesh to set an example of communal harmony. By celebrating the festival, the family has given a message to society to remain united.

Aligarh (Uttar Pradesh): Presenting a perfect example of Hindu-Muslim unity, a Muslim family in Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh celebrated the festival of Diwali and also worshipped Goddess Lakshmi and Ganesh.

The women of the family have given a message of communal harmony and unity by celebrating the festival. These women also believe that unity among religions increases through festivals.

Ruby Asif Khan, the resident of ADA Colony, organized Laxmi and Ganesh-Pujan at her home on Diwali and also illuminated her house with diyas. Ruby's family along with other Muslim women also attended Lakshmi and Ganesh Pujan. The women celebrated Diwali with rituals after the pooja of Lakshmi and Ganesh.

Asif Khan, husband of Ruby said that she has been worshipping Lakshmi and Ganesh on the occasion of Diwali for last 21 years.

For the first time, she lit one diya, two diyas in the second year and today she lit 21 diyas.

Ruby Khan further said that there should be unity between Hindus and Muslims, so she celebrates the festival of Diwali every year.

Ruby Asif Khan is a Mandal Minister in BJP Mahila Morcha.

Ruby has been celebrating Hindu festivals according to Hindu customs for the last several years.

Earlier, Continuing with the tradition in Varanasi,Muslim women associated with the Vishal Bharat Sansthan on Saturday prayed to and did aarti of Lord Shri Ram where he took the human incarnation and freed the earth from terror.

For the last 14 years, the Muslim women of Varanasi have been continuously performing Maha arati on Deepavali and Ram Navami, conveying communal harmony, brotherhood and Indian cultural unity.
