More train tickets being cancelled than booked

More passengers are coming for the purpose of cancellation of train tickets than for reservation because of the coronavirus pandemic. Starting June 1, Indian Railways will start the operations of 200 trains. The tickets can be booked online on the IRCTC website or app.

Noida:With effect from 22 May 2020, Indian Railways opened the facility of booking or cancellation of reserved train tickets.

The zonal railways were instructed to notify the opening of reservation counters for booking/cancellation in accordance with the needs of the local people.

While the reservation counter at Noida's Sector-33 witnessed several passengers coming for the booking of trains, more people had come for their ticket cancellation.

According to sources, tickets worth 8 lakh 47 thousand were booked and 16 lakh 73 thousand were cancelled.

When ETV Bharat spoke to the passengers, it was learnt that people had booked their tickets before the lock-down.

Chief Reservation Supervisor Suresh Chand Tyagi told, "More passengers are coming for the purpose of cancellation than for reservation because of the coronavirus pandemic."
