Mathura district court to pronounce judgement in Raja Maan Singh killing case

The Mathura district court is all set to pronounce judgement in the 35-year-old murder case of Raja Maan Singh. In view of the judgement, security arrangements have been tightened with the deployment of extra police force.

Mathura: The judgment in the 35-year-old murder case of Raja Maan Singh and two others would be pronounced here on Wednesday, an official source said.

The case dates back to February 21, 1985, when Raja Maan Singh along with two other people - Sumer Singh and Hari Singh - were killed in police firing. Raja Maan Singh was an independent candidate from Deeg assembly constituency in Rajasthan and was campaigning for the same when the incident took place, they said.

Raja Maan Singh's son-in-law Vijay Singh had got an FIR registered in Deeg police station about the case. Few days before the incident, an FIR against Raja Maan Singh was lodged in the same police station for allegedly hitting and destroying the helicopter of the then chief minister, Shivcharan Mathur.

The case was transferred to Mathura in 1990.

Security has been beefed up in and around the court in view of pronouncement of the judgement on Wednesday.

"We have deployed 200 additional police personnel besides Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) and all gates of the court have been secured fully," Mathura city SP Uday Shankar told ETV Bharat here.
