Mathura: Mathura district court will be hearing a petition on Wednesday seeking the removal of a mosque near a temple which the devouts believe marks the birthplace of Lord Krishna.
According to reports, the hearing of the civil suit seeking ownership of the entire 13.37 acres of Krishna Janmabhoomi land was adjourned till December 10 after the complainant in the case Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi Trust failed to appear before the court on November 18.
The petition had named the Uttar Pradesh Sunni Central Waqf Board, Shahi Masjid Idgah Trust, Shri Krishna Janambhoomi Trust, and Shri Krishna Janmasthan Seva Sansthan as defendants.
In two applications in the District Judge’s court, the All India Tirtha Purohit Mahasabha and Mathur Chaturvedi Parishad condemned the petition to remove the royal Eidgah mosque built within the Katesh Keshav Dev temple, arguing that the issue could create communal unrest in the city.
The suit sought the removal of encroachment and the superstructure, now maintained by the Committee of Management of Trust Masjid Idgah with the consent of the Sunni central board.
The suit was filed against the UP Sunni Central Waqf Board and the Committee of Management Trust Masjid Idgah as it granted approval to the later to enter into an "illegal" compromise with Shree Krishna Janmasthan Seva Sangh on October 12, 1968.
Speaking to media persons here, Advocate, Harishankar Jain said, "A group of people had filed a suit over the 17th century Shahi Idgah mosque, which they claimed was built at the birthplace of Lord Krishna, within the 13.37-acre premises of the Katra Keshav Dev temple."
"On December 10, the petition will be heard. Advocates of the four defendants will be present in the court. Preparation is complete from our side, all the documents have been studied, a copy of the documents has already been given before the court. The petitioners will be present on time," he said.
