Prayagraj:Mahant Narendra Giri, president of Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad, takes extreme step, at his Baghambri Math ashram on Monday. The police team which has reached the spot are questioning the inmates of the monastery.
According to police, Mahant has committed suicide by hanging himself from the noose in his Baghambri Math ashram. In initial investigation, police have recovered suicide notes from the spot.
ADGP(Additional DGP) Prashant Kumar said, "the body of Mahant Narendra Giri was found hanging from the noose in a room of Baghambari Math Ashram. Police have recovered a suicide note from the spot. According to the suicide note, he was suffering from mental trauma. Anand Giri, a disciple of Mahant Narendra Giri, has been accused of harassing him. The forensic team is investigating the incident site."
Giri who was known for his bold statements was associated with the Ram temple movement and had played a crucial role in the temple movement. Mahant Narendra Giri was re-elected as president of the Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad in a meeting of 13 akhadas held in October 2019. He was also infected with the Covid virus during Kumbh held in Haridwar this year.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolence to the demise of the Mahant Narendra Giri stating that the mahant had played a great role in connecting many streams of Sant Samaj together.
"The death of Akhara Parishad President Shri Narendra Giri ji is extremely sad. He had played a greater role in connecting many streams of Sant Samaj together," Modi tweeted.
Former UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav expressed grief over the demise of Narendra Giri.
"The death of Pujya Narendra Giri ji, President of Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad, is an irreparable loss. May God grant the virtuous soul a place in the heaven and the strength to bear this misery to his followers," Akhilesh Yadav said in a tweet.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also expressed his grief over seer's death.
"The death of Mahant Narendra Giri ji, President of Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad, is an irreparable loss to the spiritual world. It is prayed to Lord Shri Ram to grant the departed soul a place at his feet and strength to the bereaved followers to bear this sorrow."
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan expressed his condolences to the demise of Mahant Narendra Giri stating that his contributions in the welfare of society will always be remembered.
"Received sad information about the departure of revered saint Mahant Narendra Giri Ji Maharaj, president of Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad. The contribution made by Pujya Swamiji, who dedicated his life to the cause of Sanatan Dharma, in the welfare of society will always be remembered. May God rest his soul at his feet," Shivraj Singh Chouhan tweeted.

Recently, Narendra Giri had expelled his disciple Anand Giri from the Baghambari Math and Niranjani Akhara accusing him of breaking math's norms. After which Anand Giri had lashed out at him and alleged him of selling the land of the arena and the monastery.
Later, Narendra Giri lifted the ban on Anand Giri from visiting Shri Math Baghambri Gaddi and Bade Hanuman Mandir after he apologized for his statement.
