Kasganj (Uttar Pradesh): In a shocking reminder of the Bikru massacre, a police constable was thrashed to death, while a sub-inspector was badly injured after being attacked in Uttar Pradesh's Kasganj, where they had gone to raid an illegal liquor factory.

Constable Devendra Singh was beaten to death

Constable Devendra Singh was beaten to death and sub-inspector Ashok Kumar seriously injured when a police team from Sidhpura went to Nagla Dheemar village to serve a warrant to liquor mafia kingpin Moti Dhimar on Tuesday evening.

Dhimar and his associates caught the cops and severely thrashed them. According to the police, after the incident, Daroga Ashok Kumar was found lying in a pit in an injured state on the forest side, who was sent to the hospital for immediate treatment. At a short distance, the police found Devendra lying in a bloodied condition in a field. He was immediately rushed to the Sidhpura PHC, where doctors declared him dead. The constable was reportedly attacked with a spear.

Brother of kingpin killed in encounter

Following the incident, additional director general (ADG) Agra Zone Ajay Anand arrived at the spot late at night, and constituted a team to nab the culprits.

Subsequently, Elkar, the brother of the liquor mafia kingpin was gunned down in an encounter here early on Wednesday morning.

Elkar, a resident of Nagla Dhimar village, was earlier booked under the Excise Act and was involved in spurious liquor trade with brother Moti Dhimar

Meanwhile, the ADG said that Moti is still absconding, and has 11 criminal cases lodged against him.

Revolver of SI missing

The ADG said that the forces from other districts have been deployed in the village. A search operation is being conducted continuously after sealing off the village. The absconding criminals will soon be arrested, he said.

According to the ADG, the revolver of the sub-inspector has been missing since the incident.

Martyr laid to rest

The injured SI Ashok Kumar is a resident of Mainpuri district, while the deceased constable Devendra hailed from Agra district.

The family members of the slain constable told that Devendra had come to the village on leave about 10 days ago, and went back after his leave period ended. Devendra last spoke to his family on the phone on Monday.

Devendra had got married in 2017, and has two daughters - the elder three years old and the younger a month old.

The slain constable was laid to rest today.

CM orders action against culprits under NSA

Following the incident, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had directed officials to take stern action against the culprits under the National Security Act.

He announced an ex-gratia of Rs 50 lakh to the kin of the deceased constable and a job to a family member.
