Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh): Lucknow police on Wednesday arrested the main accused in connection with the death of Shishir Tripathi, a 32-year old lawyer, in Krishna Nagar area of Uttar Pradesh's Lucknow.

The accused was nabbed during a raid by the state police.

Meanwhile police raids are underway at 45 locations to nab the other four accused.

Krishna Nagar Inspector, Pradeep Kumar Singh has been suspended for negligence.

Police have sent the body for postmortem and a case has been registered.

Tripathi was beaten to death outside his Lucknow residence on Tuesday night by around five men who assaulted him with stones, sticks and rods.

The murder sparked unprecedented protests on Wednesday, with lawyers angry over the law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh's capital taking the body of their colleague inside the compound of the city's district magistrate's office to protest. The protest went on for about two hours before the police could restore order and send the body home for last rites.

Lawyers also took to the roads, blocked traffic near the District Magistrate's office and shouted slogans like 'Police prashashan murdabad (down with the police)" inside the District Magistrate's office premises.
Tripathi's family will get Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia from the district administration and Rs 50,000 each from Lucknow Bar Association and Central Bar Association.

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi took to Twitter to express outrage at the incident. She also alleged that the BJP government in the state has failed to uphold law and order in the state.

"After Vijayshankar Tiwari of Soraon and Ajay Pathak of Shamli, now advocate Shishir Tripathi has been murdered brutally in Lucknow. Is the state entirely in the hands of criminals? BJP government has completely failed when it comes to law and order," she said.

"I am standing with these families in their fight for justice," she added.
