Varanasi:According to the Puranas, Kashi, also known as Varanasi, is known as the city of salvation. It is believed that one who dies in Kashi attains liberation.
Even today, people not only from the country but from the corners of the world come to Kashi in search of salvation.
A magnificent building named Mumukshu Bhawan, situated at the well-known Assi Ghat of Varanasi, is where the devotees and the ascetics come in order to attain liberation.
Spread in about 5 acres of land, the Bhavan was constructed in 1920 by a businessman Ghanshyam Dutt.
Manish Pandey, the manager of Mumukshu Bhawan says that Mumukshu stands for 'moksha', which means 'desire of liberation'. He said that almost 70 couples here currently practising moksha in the Kashi.
"The organisation running the Bhavan does not charge the visitors a single rupee. Visitors often pay donations with their will. It is usual for them to stay here for 5-7 years. Some even stay for 15 years," Pandey said.
The organisation has been providing free food to ones living here. After one achieves salvation, that is, when they die, their respective families are informed by the organisation.
