How happy is the electoral of Varanasi with BJP?

With Varanasi being the Parliamentary Constituency of none other than the Prime Minister himself, one would expect it to be flourishing with prosperity, but as ETV Bharat spoke to some of its inhabitants, the picture didn't appear quite as rosy.

Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh): With Varanasi going to polls in the last phase of the seven-phased Lok Sabha polls 2019, the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) has intensified its efforts to swing votes in its favor.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also held a two-day mega rally as he filed his nomination from his Parliamentary Constituency of Varanasi. But, how far did this stunt help the saffron party to woo the electoral?

ETV Bharat spoke to some people belonging to the so-called lower rung of the society, the working class, to understand how BJP's policies have fared so far as their development and prosperity is concerned.

Ramrati, a frail old lady, who makes her ends meet by begging on the street said, " The government has not done any work to help the poor on the streets. I don't even get a monthly old-age pension, it becomes very difficult to survive for me and my family of seven."

Even as the BJP keeps thumping its chest over the apparent successful implementation of the Swachh Bharat Mission across India, the septuagenarian said, " I don't even have access to a toilet."

Despite the failure of the government to deliver on its tall promises, the old lady is determined to cast her vote and exercise her right to choose her representative.

"I will vote," said Ramrati in a firm voice.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, Mantu, a young dairy farmer said, " We didn't get any help from any of the government policies. But, we did get a notice asking us to shift our animals outside the city area. If we lose our animals too, how are we going to survive."
