Home Guard Training Centre to be named in Chetan Chauhan's honour

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath today announced that the Divisional Training Centre of the Home Guard Department in Moradabad district will be named in honour of late cricketer-turned politician Chetan Chauhan, who was a state cabinet minister.

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday announced the state government's decision to name the Home Guard Divisional Training Centre in Moradabad in honour of late Minister and cricketer Chetan Chauhan.

"Honouring the sentiments of the regional public, CM Yogi Adityanath has permitted the naming of the Divisional Training Centre of the Home Guard Department in Moradabad district in the name of Chetan Chauhan, former cabinet minister, Uttar Pradesh," the Chief Minister's office informed.

The late Minister's wife, Sangeeta Chauhan, thanked Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for the decision.

"The decision takes as a tribute to my husband and late leader Chetan Chauhan is commendable. Heartfelt gratitude to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath from my family and the entire state of Uttar Pradesh," she tweeted in Hindi.

Chauhan, who was admitted to the Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) after he tested positive for COVID-19, was shifted to the Medanta hospital in Haryana's Gurugram when his condition deteriorated.

The cricketer-turned-politician died in August due to COVID-related complications, after being put on life support for nearly 36 hours.

Chauhan, who had played 40 test matches for India, was serving as the Minister of Sainik Welfare, Home Guards, and Civil Security in the Uttar Pradesh cabinet.
