Hindu caretaker looks after a mosque for last 60 years

Bechan Baba, a Hindu pandit looks after a mosque for the last 60 years. The mosque situated in Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi district is taken care by Bechan Baba. Baba said that this holy place is as close to the Hindu as it is to the Muslims. He stays just outside the main gate of the mosque under a temporary plastic shed.

Varanasi:A century-old mosque by the name of Anar Wali Masjid in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, attracts devotees from all faiths.

Bechan Baba, a Hindu pandit, the main caretaker is looking after the mosque for 60 years now.

As the caretaker of the mosque, he sets an example of communal brotherhood.

The mosque is situated in the Varanasi's Chaukhamba locality. The locality which has a majority of Hindu population with the famous Gopal temple nearby.

Thousands of devotees pay their obeisance in mosque irrespective of their religious beliefs.

While speaking to ETV Bharat, he said, "Everybody comes here to worship, be it Hindu or Muslim. My father used to be the caretaker, I was inspired by him and now my son is also looking after this mosque. We do not think about religion while worshipping. "

The mosque has four parts which include Sayed Tara Shah Baba, Meera Shah Baba, Anar Shaeed Baba and Chaukhamba Baba.

The mosque is not only one of the prominent holy places for the Muslims, but the Hindu's also have an attachment to the mosque.

Father inspired him to be the caretaker

Baba said that this holy place is as close to the Hindu as it is to the Muslims. He stays just outside the main gate of the mosque under a temporary plastic shed.

He saw his father being the caretaker of the mosque and got inspired by him to take up the work.

Bechan baba delivers his duty to the best on Chand ki Tareekh and other major occasions of the mosque.

His sons are also following their father's footsteps in serving the mosque.
