Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh): As the incessant heavy rains continue in parts of Uttar Pradesh claiming many lives, the state government has announced the closure of educational institutions in the state on September 17 and 18.
Since Thursday morning, many districts of the state are witnessing heavy rains. In many districts like Rae Bareli, Lucknow, Sultanpur, Ayodhya, rainfall of more than 10mm was recorded. Roads have been waterlogged in many areas making it difficult for people to commute. Railway lines were also submerged in several regions.
Reports of house collapses which resulted in the deaths of many people have also been received from many parts like Jaunpur, Kaushambi, Barabanki.
IMD has also predicted that the monsoon is likely to last longer than the usual time this year. According to the Meteorological Department, till the end of September, there is no possibility of reduction in the rain in North India The southwest monsoon withdraws from northwest India only when there is no rain in the area for five consecutive days.
