Heavy rains pound UP, educational institutions to remain shut for two days

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh): As the incessant heavy rains continue in parts of Uttar Pradesh claiming many lives, the state government has announced the closure of educational institutions in the state on September 17 and 18.

Since Thursday morning, many districts of the state are witnessing heavy rains. In many districts like Rae Bareli, Lucknow, Sultanpur, Ayodhya, rainfall of more than 10mm was recorded. Roads have been waterlogged in many areas making it difficult for people to commute. Railway lines were also submerged in several regions.

Reports of house collapses which resulted in the deaths of many people have also been received from many parts like Jaunpur, Kaushambi, Barabanki.

IMD has also predicted that the monsoon is likely to last longer than the usual time this year. According to the Meteorological Department, till the end of September, there is no possibility of reduction in the rain in North India The southwest monsoon withdraws from northwest India only when there is no rain in the area for five consecutive days.

Anti-cyclonic air is formed in the lower troposphere ([troposphere)] and a significant reduction in humidity is also necessary. Director-General of Meteorological Department Mrityunjay Mohapatra said on Thursday, "There is no sign of withdrawal of monsoon from North India for the next 10 days."

"Also, due to low pressure in Orissa, it is raining in the surrounding areas following which light rain may occur in the districts around Varanasi city for two days," said Prof. Manoj Kumar Srivastava. On September 15, a rainfall of 70 to 80 mm was recorded in Varanasi.

Meanwhile, Kisan Sammelan that was to be held on September 18 in Smriti Upvan Lucknow has been postponed to September 26.

"About 20,000 farmers from across India were expected to take part in the Sammelan," said state BJP president Kameshwar Singh.
