Mathura: A Mathura court will hear the matter regarding the Krishna Janmabhoomi-Idgah row today on the petition filed by Krishna devotees seeking the removal of the 17th-century Shahi Idgah mosque near the birthplace of Lord Krishna.

The hearing of the petition filed in the court of the district's Senior Civil Judge Chhaya Sharma will proceed after 11 am regarding the ownership of Shri Krishna birthplace.

The court will decide whether to admit the plea or not.

The petition was filed on September 25 to reclaim 13.37-acre land allegedly belonging to Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi.

During the British rule, an auction held in 1815, Raja Patni Mal of Benares bought the place and in 1940 when Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya came to Mathura, he was saddened to see the plight of the birthplace of Lord Krishna and the locals also wished that a grand temple should be built.

Madan Mohan Malaviya ji wrote a letter to industrialist Jugal Kishore Birla of Mathura for Janmabhoomi Revival.

On 21 February 1951, Shri Krishna Janma Bhoomi Trust was established. In 1968, Sri Krishna Janmasthana Seva Sansthan and Shahi Idgah Management Committee negotiated and reached on a mutual agreement to settle the dispute to the effect that the mosque would remain on the land it was constructed.

The district administration has increased security arrangements in and around the court ahead of the hearing.
