Uttar Pradesh to recover Rs 13 crore from 51 'fake' teachers in Gorakhpur

The government is looking to recover a whopping amount close to Rs 13 crore from 51 teachers who were suspended in Gorakhpur district for using forged signatures and fraudulent methods for obtaining the job.

Gorakhpur: In a re-run of the 'Anamika Shukla' scam, as many as 51 teachers have been suspended in Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur district, for obtaining their jobs using fraudulent methods.

Gorakhpur basic shiksha adhikari (BSA) Bhupendra Narayan Singh had launched an investigation after it came to light that many 'fake' teachers were fraudulently drawing salaries for the past few years. As many as 51 such 'fake' teachers were suspended for using forged signatures and obtaining their jobs using fraudulent methods.

According to reports, the 'fake' teachers had duped the government of close to Rs 13 crore, which authorities now want to recover.

Speaking to reporters, BSA Singh said that FIR has been lodged against 39 of the 51 suspended teachers. He added that a team has been constituted in order to recover the massive amount from the suspended teachers.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formulated to find out the extent of the fraud, while a special police team is working to nab the accused.
