Ghaziabad: Migrant worker rides with family on a rickshaw to get back home amid COVID-19 lockdown

ETV Bharat team met a migrant labourer who was travelling to his hometown with family riding on a rickshaw overnight. Brijesh was working in Azadpur area of Delhi but due to the sudden COVID crisis, the couple decided to return to their hometown in Bihar's Muzaffarnagar.

Ghaziabad (Uttar Pradesh): The third phase of COVID-19 has come to an end but the migrant workers are yet to get help.

ETV Bharat team reached Ghaziabad on seeing the shocking picture of migrant workers' exodus. The team met a family from Azadpur, Delhi, which was travelling to their hometown in Muzaffarnagar of Bihar in a rickshaw.

The husband was driving a rickshaw and the wife was sitting on the backseat with her two children and was trying to cover her children from the scorching heat.

While talking to ETV Bharat, Brijesh said, "I reached Ghaziabad from Azadpur after driving a rickshaw overnight."

"My hometown is Muzaffarnagar, and I was working in Azadpur. After the lockdown, we found it difficult to survive there, so decided to go back to our hometown," he said.

Muzaffarnagar is about 1100 km from Delhi and we have covered half the distance, he added.

This is not just the story of Brijesh... but of thousands of people who are desperate to reach home at any cost in this time of crisis.
