Five sanitation workers die while cleaning sewer in UP

UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced a compensation of Rs. 10 lakh each to the kin of the workers.

Ghaziabad (Uttar Pradesh):Five men suffocated to death while cleaning a sewer in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad on Thursday.

The incident happened when they were working for a water drainage project.

Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath announced an ex-gratia amount of Rs 10 lakh each to the family members of the deceased.

The incident took place in Krishna Colony when one of the workers did not come out of the sewer for a long time. Then one by one the other four men went inside to find him out.

None of them came out alive as they were not wearing safety equipment.

A criminal case has been registered against the contractor and others.

The incident would be jointly probed by the Additional District Magistrate (City) and Water Department.
