Four killed in illegal fire cracker unit blast in UP

A neighbour said that everyone knows about firecracker unit here but they don't know if the operator has the required permission or not, adding that explosion took place earlier also but no action was taken to either shift or shut it.

Kushinagar: As many as four people of a family were killed in an explosion at an illegal firecracker factory at Kaptanganj in Uttar Pradesh's Kushinagar on Wednesday.

The illegal firecracker unit was operating from the densely populated area of ward number 11 of the same area.

According to sources, The blast took place at the house at Rihayashi area, where a family was allegedly manufacturing firecrackers illegally. Fire brigade personnel went to the village and doused the fire.

Sunita Devi, a local, told ETV Bharat here that everyone in the locality knows about the firecracker unit.

"Everyone knows that there is a firecracker unit here but we don't know if the operator has the required permission or not," she said, adding that explosion took place earlier also but no action was taken to either shift or shut it.

Meanwhile, four police officials have been suspended after the incident.

Government officials, including the district magistrate, refused to comment on the situation even if the media persons tried to seek official version about the incident.
