Former SP leader terms Raebareli poll violence as 'black day' in Indian democracy

Violence erupted in Raebareli after alleged goons of the  Bharatiya Janta Party's Lok Sabha candidate Dinesh Pratap Singh and his brother Awadhesh Pratap Singh attacked Congress' Aditi Singh and a few Panchayat workers.

Raebareli (Uttar Pradesh):Terming the poll violence in Uttar Pradesh's Raebareli on May 14 as a "black day" in the history of democracy, former Cabinet Minister in the Samajwadi Party government, Manoj Kumar Pandey held the local administration accountable for the violence in the district.

"People were not allowed to cast their votes on the polling day. The district's law and order had collapsed during the election day," said Pandey.

"There are a few officials who want to work as an agent of some criminals, but the Samajwadi Party will fight against this disorderly conduct," he added.

He advised the officials to stop supporting these goons saying its the people who play the biggest role in democracy.
