Lucknow: Heavy showers have led to a flood-like situation in many parts of Uttar Pradesh as many rivers including the Ganges are swollen causing panic among the people in the state.
Reports said water discharged into the Sharda river from the Sharda Barrage has led to a flood-like situation in Pilibhit district. Water was also released from Bhimgoda barrage and there is flood threat in Haridwar, Muzaffarnagar, Bijnor and Meerut.
The Rohin and Kuaono rivers in Gorakhpur have risen above the danger mark and water levels continue to rise. At least 3.75 lakh cusecs of water have been released from Haridwar to the Ganges and water is expected to reach Mirzapur in about 6 or 7 days. To deal with floods and flood-like situations, flood posts have been made in these areas, said the report.
