Fight over Nawab Raza Ali Khan's property among kin is far from over

Nawab Raza Ali Khan had three sons and after his death in 1966, the government recognized the eldest of his three sons - Nawab Murtaza Ali Khan - as the sole inheritor as per the customary law. But this was challenged by his siblings in a 47-year-long legal battle in which the Supreme Court in 2019 ruled that the property would be divided among all family members.

Rampur: One of the relatives of the last ruler of Rampur Nawab Raza Ali Khan, Nawab Kazim Ali Khan has alleged that two thrones - one of them made of crystals and other one were made of silver - were stolen or sold between 1982 and 1992 and the people who had control over Khasbagh Palace during the period should be made to pay for the missing property as it is to be distributed among all concerned.

Nawab Raza Ali Khan had three sons and after his death in 1966, the government recognized the eldest of his three sons - Nawab Murtaza Ali Khan - as the sole inheritor as per the customary law.

But this was challenged by his siblings in a 47-year-long legal battle. After which, in 2019, the Supreme Court ruled that the property would be divided among all family members, according to Muslim law.

He told ETV Bharat here that his aunt Begum Aftab Zamini, wife of Murtaza, had control over the palace till 1993.

He alleged that she shifted the items before her death.

"The missing jewels and property should be recovered from them and distributed among all the inheritors," he said.

Recently after the court's order to evaluate the Nawab's property, the strong room of the palace was opened and was found empty, which led to a blame game among the kin of the Rampur Nawab. All movable and immovable property of the Nawab is being evaluated.
