Lucknow: Sumaiya Rana, daughter of famous Urdu poet Munawwar Rana joined Samajwadi Party on Tuesday in the presence of Akhilesh Yadav.
In an exclusive interview with ETV Bharat, Sumaiya said that it was the party's policy of working for all the communities that prompted her to join the SP.
She said that Akhilesh Yadav has promised that when his party comes to power in 2022, he will drop all the charges against the CAA and NRC protestors who have been booked by the Yogi government in Uttar Pradesh.
Saying that she has joined the party without any conditions, Sumaiya added that she had made some demands that have been accepted by the party chief.
Sumaiya said that she has worked as an activist till now and after joining the party, she will get to work more for the society and people.

Responding to a question on SP's contribution towards Muslims, she said that the party's patron Mulayam Singh Yadav has done a lot for the community - be it for Urdu teachers or giving Urdu the status of the second language in Uttar Pradesh.
Sumaiya Rana further said that she is ready to handle any responsibility that the party gives her with full dedication.
Sumaiya Rana has been in headlines after she participated in the anti-CAA protests. The UP police had also registered cases against Sumaiya and her sister Fauzia Rana.
