Jhansi:In the recently released 17-minute video on Saturday, former party chief Rahul Gandhi was seen sitting on a footpath with the migrants and interacting with them.

ETV Bharat visited the house of one such family in Jhansi who appeared in the video and was helped out by the former party chief to reach back home.

Talking to ETV Bharat, Rajkumar said, "We were walking on foot in Delhi when some bystanders told us that Rahul Gandhi would be visiting. In about 10 minutes, Rahul Gandhi reached the place and sat down with us on the pavement."

"He asked why we were heading back home and what issues we were facing. We told him about our financial plight," continued Rajkumar.

"After talking to us, he arranged vehicles for 14 of us to send us back to our homes," he told.

Ramsakhi from the same family said, "We reached Nizamuddin from Haryana on foot. We used to work as labourers there. Our landlord used to ask for rent and we had no money. When Rahul Gandhi met us, he expressed his desire to help and we accepted the help."

The Congress on Saturday released a video of an interaction between former party chief Rahul Gandhi and a group of migrant workers.

For almost an hour, he listened to their story and difficulties, the prejudice they faced, their reasons for deciding to flee their workplace, and why they were forced to walk back to their homes.

Gandhi and Congress volunteers organised transport and necessary permissions to get them back safely to their village.

Lately, the migrant crisis has triggered a political slugfest between the opposition Congress and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.
