ED team gets proof of foreign funding of PFI suspects

The UAPA case registered against suspected PFI members takes a new turn as Enforcement Directorate has collected evidence proving that the suspects received funds from foreign countries. The four suspected members were allegedly conspiring to disrupt peace in Hathras case.

Mathura: An Enforcement Directorate team has collected evidence proving the four suspected Popular Front of India, PFI members who were arrested at Yamuna Expressway Mont Toll Plaza on October 5 received funds from abroad. Evidence of foreign funds was sent to Lucknow ED.

Uttar Pradesh police had registered Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, UAPA case against the four PFI members as they were allegedly conspiring to disrupt peace in Hathras case.

The four accused including Atiq-ur Rehman from Muzaffarnagar, Siddique from Malappuram, Masood Ahmed from Bahraich and Alam from Rampur were sent to 14 days judicial custody.

After getting permission from the court, the ED team will remand the accused in police custody. Their mobile phones, laptops and some literature, with alleged unlawful content, were seized by the police officials.

The five-member ED team had reached Mathura from Lucknow for the investigation. The four accused will be interrogated by the Intelligence Department team and ED team. Reportedly, the police have also questioned the kin of Masood Ahmed in Bahraich.
