Ghaziabad: Defying her physical disability, a woman from Ghaziabad has pledged to contribute in the fight against COVID-19.

The woman has vowed to not only stitch masks but also distribute it among the needy for free to help them fight against the deadly virus, which is spreading like wildfire in the country.

Disability was never a barrier for Murthy Devi, who lost her hands in an accident at the age of 14 and since then, she has put her will power over her physical inability.

"The idea came to my mind when I saw a woman cop standing at a road holding her child in her hand and both without mask. I realised they are putting our lives before theirs. Then I decided to make face masks and distribute it among the needy and the frontline-workers for free. My hands don't support me much but I still want to be productive for the society, especially in this dire situation," said Murthy Devi, who has been sewing clothes for a living.

Despite being most prone to the disease, Murthy is distributing the masks on her own to the frontline workers and people who cannot afford to buy them.

Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Vocal for Local', she also wants people to use locally used products to support people like her.

"By distributing the face masks, I not only want people to remain safe but I also want to spread awareness about the disease and ask people to stay indoors," said Murthy, who has also been feeding stray animals since childhood.

Sending out a message on how to make disability a strength, she said,"It's all in the head. If your will power is strong you can do anything in this world. I just want to say that happiness comes after a long sadness and uncertainty is the only constant."
