Delhi farmers are not farmers officially

Delhi does not recognize people engaged in farming as farmers despite the fact that lakhs of people are working as farmers.

New Delhi: Lakhs of people involved in farming in the national capital are not recognized as farmers and hence do not get any benefit of the government schemes rolled out for the peasants from time to time.

Interacting with the ETV Bharat here, some of the farmers said they should be recognized as farmers so that they could get the benefits like other farmers in the country.

"It's not our fault if we are not in large numbers in Delhi. We should get our due," said one of the farmers.

He said they have to buy seeds, fertilizers and other things from the neighbouring states as they do not get any subsidy on such in the national capital.

They also said that lakhs of farmers are based in five constituencies of Delhi but successive governments have failed to recognize us as farmers.

"This is tragic that farmers are not farmers in Delhi," said a farmer standing on his fields.
