COVID-19: PM appeals people of Varanasi to use Gamchha as mask

As there is a shortage of masks in India everywhere, PM Modi appealed to the people of his constituency to use Gamchha (towel) as a mask to contain the spread of virus.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with BJP's district president and other senior leaders of his parliamentary constituency Varanasi via video conferencing over Coronavirus preparedness.

After identifying that there is major unavailability of masks, PM Modi suggested using Gamchha (towel) as a mask which is commonly used by the people of Uttar Pradesh.

Prime Minister Modi had a conversation with BJP district president Hansraj Vishwakarma of Varanasi to know the situation of the city during lockdown due to Coronavirus. While interacting with leaders, PM appealed to party workers to aware people about the spread of the virus and to use Gamchha to cover their mouth.

After PM 's appeal, the BJP party worker came on the streets and distributing saffron colour Gamchha among those who do not have masks. People are also appreciating this gesture of BJP workers.

During the Lok Sabha elections, a large number of Gamchha was sent to distribute in every district among the people, especially in Varanasi and now those Gamchha are being distributed among the public to fight with Coronavirus.

The meeting was the latest in a series of periodic reviews at various levels by the Prime Minister’s Office to monitor the ongoing efforts to counter the impact of the pandemic.

PM Modi has been interacting with various stakeholders on ways to deal with the COVID-19 outbreak. Also, he has been pitching for social distancing, urging citizens to stay indoors whenever possible. He also announced a nationwide lockdown for 21 days to deal with the crisis.
