Bahraich: The Bahraich sessions court on Monday issued a notice to Congress president Rahul Gandhi on a petition filed by Rani Padmavati Youth Brigade (RPYB) national president Bhawani Thakur alias Kunwar Avikram Singh over Rahul's alleged anti-Hindu statements in the last six months.

The next date of hearing has been fixed on May 23, coinciding with the counting of votes for 2019 general elections, when Rahul has to present himself in the court.

The petition was moved against the Congress chief for allegedly making derogatory statements against Hindus on various television channels in the last six months.

Bhawani Thakur stated that he had earlier lodged a complaint and presented an application to the police with evidence but no action was taken. Thereafter he approached the lower court where the plea was turned down once again.

Thakur's plea, however, got a response from sessions court as it accepted his petition and asked Rahul Gandhi to appear before the court on May 23 to present his side.

"Bhawani Thakur has filed a complaint against Rahul Gandhi for hurting sentiments of the Hindus as he called lord Rama a fictional character. Earlier, it was rejected by the lower court but now it has been accepted in the higher court. Honourable court has summoned Rahul Gandhi on May 23," Bhawani's lawyer Ashok Kumar Singh said.
