Unnao (Uttar Pradesh): On the first day of the lockdown 3, Lucknow-Kanpur highway witnessed huge crowds of migrant workers.

The vehicles carrying these labourers from various places to Uttar Pradesh were stopped at the border near Kanpur-Unnao border on Sunday afternoon as UP authorities showed some hesitation in allowing these migrant labourers to enter the state.

According to sources, a long queue of buses and trucks was witnessed at the Jajmau Ganga bridge on NH 25. Police were only allowing vehicles carrying essential commodities like vegetables, fruits, or other such items. Neither vehicle nor people were allowed to go from the border area.

"We are not allowing anybody to cross the border during the lockdown period. We are persuading the labourers to go back to where they came from. There is proper implementation of lockdown in UP and thus, we are requesting the bus drivers, who carry migrant workers in their vehicles, to return to their places from this point," a police officer said.

Police permitted some vehicles who had license and permission to carry migrant labourers and also instructed to other vehicles to return. The police made people stand in several queues at the bus stand and also made people de-board overcrowded buses and trucks to avoid the spread of the infection, sources said.

"A lot of workers have been coming by vehicles since last night. They should not face any problem from the administration and that's why the identification is being done by us. After getting adequate information about the people and the vehicle, the permission is being given. We are providing food to every person who is coming to the state by vehicles. We are also sending these people to the quarantine centre," said, Rakesh Singh, ADM, Unnao.
