Congress councillor rescued from kidnappers, sent home safely

A 39-year-old councillor from Rudrapur in Uttarakhand was rescued from Ghaziabad’s Raj Nagar Extension late Saturday night, three days after he was kidnapped by a carjacking gang in a stolen car and taken to western Uttar Pradesh.

Ghaziabad: Congress councillor Amit Mishra, who was abducted from Rudrapur in Uttarakhand last week, has been rescued from Raj Nagar Extension area of the district, official sources said.

"Police teams were placed at all exit points in the district. The abductors, realizing that they would be caught, abandon him in Raj Nagar Extension," Neeraj Kumar, Superintendent of Police, told media here.

He said foolproof arrangements were made to ensure that the abductors were caught. They were demanding Rs 20 lakh as ransom money. Earlier, they had demanded Rs 40 lakh.

"Police teams were placed on Peripheral Expressway and all exit points of the town," he said, adding that pressure was built on them and they ran away after dropping the councillor.

"It was learnt that the abductors had stolen a car to execute the kidnapping," he said.

The police officer also informed that the councillor was sent home after a medical checkup.
