Ciprofloxacin samples fail laboratory tests in UP

Popular medicine Ciprofloxacin failed in medical tests conducted by the Drugs department of Uttar Pradesh. Three months back this medicine was distributed among one lakh people in Badaun district as it had passed the test conducted by UPMSCL, but later it failed when the test was conducted by the Drugs department.

Budaun (Uttar Pradesh): The quality of drugs manufactured in Uttar Pradesh's Budaun district has come under the scanner with a sample of Ciprofloxacin failing the test conducted by the Drugs department.

According to sources, this medicine was already distributed among one lakh people in the district.

Three months back, it was distributed as it had passed the test conducted by Uttar Pradesh Medical Supplies Corporation Limited (UPMSCL) but later it failed when the test was conducted by the Drugs department, added sources.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, the Chief Medical Superintendent (CMS) of the district hospital, Bibi Pushkar, said that it was a routine sampling of the medicine where it failed the test.

"We conduct sampling of medicines that are supplied to us. It's was a routine process under which test was conducted on ciprofloxacin and the drug failed the test," said Pushkar.
