Case against over 150 villagers in Uttar Pradesh for violating social distancing norms

A case has been registered against at least 150 people here for defying lockdown norms. The villagers, violating social distancing norms and not wearing face masks, took out a grand procession to bury a dead cow.

Aligarh (Uttar Pradesh): Nearly 150 people of a village near Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh were booked for taking out a procession organised for the burial of a cow.

The cow was reportedly unwell for the past few days and was found dead near the shop owned by one Dinesh Chandra. Following this, the villagers decided to conduct the last rites of the cow and over 150 people, including 100 women gathered, defying lockdown orders.

A video of the incident has gone viral on social media.

Police officer-in-charge Abhay Kumar Sharma and Daroga Dharmendra were immediately informed about this and they reached the spot. The crowd dispersed on the arrival of the police.

A case has been registered in Jawan police station under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code against 25 identified and 125 unidentified persons.

The police also buried the cow carcass.
