Varanasi: Seldom, people act compassionately, even though they are acquainted with stories of selfless service. Sonam, a BCom student, from Madagin area of Varanasi has been a savior for stray animals for many years.
Covid lockdown did not spare stray animals as well. With no hotels or leftover food in the streets, stray animals found it hard to survive. Wearing masks, using sanitizers, Sonam braved Covid fears to help the ignored animals.
A team of animal lovers under the aegis of ‘Beast Roti Bank' has been engaged in the service of animals under her leadership. Starting their work at 7 am, they toil till midnight serving the animals. They stroll through the streets carrying biscuits, milk packets, medicines for the animals.

Sonam never hesitates to take care of stray animals which no one dares to touch. She has been driven by the struggle stray animals have been going through in the scorching sun and heatwaves. She serves glucose, water to unattended cows, buffaloes, dogs.
Since childhood, she was fond of stray animals. Heart-wrenched over watching wounded animals, she used to go to school with medicines and anti-septics.
