Unnao: After many bodies were found buried in the sand along the Ganga river in Unnao district, SDMs of Fatehpur and Unnao districts landed into a territorial dispute on Thursday.

The argument took hours but failed to settle even after Fatehpur's Bindki tehsil SDM checked a map of the area to draw a conclusion.

Four days after dead bodies of suspected Covid patients were spotted floating on the Ganga river in eastern UP and Bihar, reports have shown that multiple bodies have been buried in sand at two locations in Unnao district.

Following this, the administration swung into action and officials from both the districts reached the spot to take stock of the situation after the Chief Minister's office sought an immediate report over the issue.

On Thursday, Unnao's Bighapur SDM Dayashankar Pathak and Fatehpur's Bindki SDM Priyanka reached Buxar Ganga Ghat along with police to initiate a probe.

The discussion intensified after Bighapur SDM claimed that the burial site comes under Fatehpur's Bindki tehsil limits.

Meanwhile, Unnao DM Ravindra Kumar has put a ban on the burial of bodies on the banks of the ghat and police have been deployed to ensure no trespassing is done.

However, officials have refuted the reports of the border dispute and said that the situation is under control without concerning that the bodies may spread the infection if not properly disposed of.

According to Bighapur SDM Dayashankar Pathak, all the bodies were found buried in the sand and not mauled by the dogs or wild animals.

All the bodies will be properly cremated, he added.
