New Delhi: Bhartiya Janata Party on Thursday asked the Congress why Priyanka Gandhi Vadra could not contest the LS polls against Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Varanasi when she could campaign in the district.
BJP national spokesperson Sudesh Verma speaks to ETV Bharat BJP national spokesperson Sudesh Verma said, "Is Priyanka scared of contesting from Varanasi? Why Congress has given the ticket to Ajay Rai again, who was defeated by the BJP with a huge margin in the previous Lok Sabha elections."
He further added, "Congress is aware that no one can stand against PM Modi in the current political scenario. People of Varanasi are with Modi ji and have seen the developmental works done by him in Varanasi. People see a hard taskmaster in PM Modi."
When asked whether the BJP had challenged Priyanka Gandhi to contest from Varanasi, he said, "No, this is not true... such issues are raised by Congress itself. If she wants to contest from here... who is stopping her from doing so."

On allegations of BJP polarising votes as PM Modi is likely to visit Ayodhya and Kashi Vishwanath temple before filling nomination in Varanasi, he said, "People visit temple and mosque as per their faith and belief. Apart from Hindus, now the Muslim community also love and support Modi. There is nothing like polarisation in doing such things."
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will land in Varanasi to hold a major roadshow. The Prime Minister's cavalcade will pass through the main areas of his Lok Sabha constituency before culminating at Dashashwamedh Ghat where the PM will participate in the Ganga Aarti.
Top BJP and NDA leaders, including many chief ministers, are expected to accompany PM Modi in the roadshow. Amit Shah, union ministers Nitin Gadkari, Sushma Swaraj, Piyush Goyal and NDA leaders, including Shiromani Akali Dal Chief Parkash Singh Badal, Shiv Sena Chief Uddhav Thackeray, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Lok Jan Shakti Party Chief Ram Vilas Paswan, will also be present on the occasion, the BJP spokesperson said.
