Rae Bareli: Aam Aadmi Party MLA Somnath Bharti, who was arrested on Monday for allegedly making derogatory remarks against the Uttar Pradesh government and the state's hospitals, has been sent to 14-day judicial custody.
He was arrested for criminal intimidation and promoting enmity between groups, Amethi Police said.
The next hearing on the bail plea by MP-MLA court is scheduled for January 13. The FIR has been registered against Bharti under Section 147, 332, 353, 505 (2), 153 A, 504, 506 of IPC.
Additional SP Vishwajit Shrivastava speaking to ETV Bharat Additional SP Vishwajit Shrivastava said that a case has been registered against the AAP MLA for making derogatory remarks in Amethi district.
"He had also used unparliamentary words for Jagdishpur police who had gone to arrest him," he added.
Earlier, the AAP leader was attacked while he was embroiled in a heated argument with a police officer who had stopped him from visiting the schools. After the incident, Bharti was detained in the guest house itself while the man who threw ink on him managed to escape.
