Ayodhya:The 67 acres land that was acquired under Ayodhya Act was transferred to Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra, the trust that has been formed to oversee the construction of a grand temple at Ayodhya in line with the verdict of the Supreme Court on Saturday.
The development came nearly six months after Prime Minister Narendra Modi made an announcement in this regard while addressing the centenary celebrations of Jagadguru Vishwaradhya Gurukul at Jangamwadi Math in Kashi.
The 'Bhumi Pujan' of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya is scheduled to take place on August 5. During the auspicious ceremony, organized by the temple trust, the foundation stone of the temple will be laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
At the ceremony, around 200 personalities are expected to be present and they will observe social distancing and follow other guidelines that are in place in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
After a protracted legal tussle, the Supreme Court had on November 9 last year paved the way for the construction of a Ram Temple by a Trust at the disputed site in Ayodhya and directed the Centre to allot an alternative 5-acre plot to the Sunni Waqf Board for building a new mosque at a "prominent" place in the holy town in Uttar Pradesh.
The mosque in Ayodhya was demolished on December 6, 1992 by 'kar sevaks' who claimed that an ancient Ram temple had stood on the same site. Former deputy prime minister L K Advani and BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi were leading the Ram temple movement at that time.
