Banda (Uttar Pradesh): As many as three women died after a fire broke out in their house following a suspected gas leakage at Paras village under Kotwali police limits in Uttar Pradesh's Banda district on Wednesday.
The deceased persons have been identified as Munni Devi, her daughter, Aarti, and daughter-in-law, Rekha.
According to sources, the fire broke out at around 1 pm on Tuesday when Munni was cooking lunch, with Aarti and Rekha assisting her in the kitchen. Meanwhile, a fire ensued in the house due to suspected gas leakage. As a result, the house caught fire.
After noticing smoke started emanating from the kitchen, Aarti and Rekha tried to rescue Munni, and the duo also trapped in the room.
On being informed about the incident, locals called the fire personnel to douse the flame and rescue the trio. However, Munni died after being unable to escape from the blaze while her daughter and daughter-in-law sustained critical injuries.
Locals immediately rushed the injured women to the nearby hospital. Later, they were shifted to Kanpur DHH as their health condition deteriorated. On Wednesday afternoon, both Rekha and Aarti succumbed to their injuries, sources said.
Three rooms of the house were completely destroyed in the mishap while properties worth lakhs reduced to ashes. While the exact cause behind the incident is yet to be ascertained but the fire is suspected to have spread because of gas leakage. A case in connection with the incident has been registered and a probe has been launched, sources added.
