New Delhi: Tripura Congress chief Pradyot Dev Burman in a press conference on Tuesday said that the situation of Tripura has worsened.

He said that the country is more concerned about Kashmir than about the North-Eastern region.

"Since the BJP government has been formed in Tripura, the atrocities on the common man have increased," said Burman.

He said that Tripura is a border state which cannot be ignored. Democracy is essential in the inner part of the country and in the same way it is also necessary for North Eastern states.

He accused the BJP workers of attacking people in the state. "Many people had to take shelter in the forests to save themselves from the BJP workers. Not only the Congressmen but the old BJP members are also becoming victims of violence."

Burman said as the Tripura Police had failed to control the law and order situation, the task should be assigned to the Assam Rifles.

The Congress also said that it will approach the Supreme Court to demand compensation for the victims of violence in Tripura during the Lok Sabha elections from the state government or the Election Commission.
