New Delhi: Left Front leadership alleged on Wednesday that free and fair election is not possible in the state.
CPM politburo member Nilutpal Basu Speaking to ETV Bharat, CPM politburo member Nilotpal Basu said, "Free and fair elections are not possible in Tripura as the incumbent Chief Minister is openly talking about using muscle power. How can we expect a free and fair election,"
Basu's statement, however, contradicts Election Commission's claim that all necessary steps have been taken to ensure free and fair elections in the state.
Polling in Tripura will be held in two phases on April 11 and April 18.
Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb has reportedly said that "lesson will be taught to the people after the election."
"We have appraised the Election Commission about the latest developments but we are not aware of the steps taken by the commission," said Basu.
Earlier left front leaders from the state protested twice against the state government and called upon election commission to lodge formal complaints as to their apprehensions.
"The promises made by the BJP government ahead of last assembly elections have been washed away," alleged Basu.
