Vijayalakshmi, a pregnant woman in the village of Devabanda in Jogulamba Gadwal was carried by relatives to the nearby hospital. Though the nearby town Ieeja was just five kilometres away, no vehicle was able to enter or exit Devabanda as the bridge connecting it to Ieeja was flooded by the river.

Finally, when she was taken to the other end of the river, an ambulance was on standby to take her to the hospital. If there was a medical facility at Devabanda, the ordeal could have been avoided for Viajayalakshmi.

The villagers of Devabanda has been requesting the government to provide medical facilities at their village.
