Maoist rebels killed in gun battle in Telangana

The exchange of fire between the rebels and police took place in Telangana's Mulugu district, police said.

Hyderabad: Two maoists were killed in an exchange of fire with the police in Mulugu district of Telangana on Sunday, according to police.

They added that special police parties were combing the forest area on a tip-off in Mangapet mandal.

Some weapons were recovered from the spot, a senior official told.

The encounter was reported after a week when six extremists barged into the house of Maduri Bheemeshwara Rao, a member of Telangana Rashtra Samiti, who owned a fertiliser shop in Venkatapuram of Mulugu district and stabbed him to death.
