Muslim girl translates Bhagavad Gita into Urdu

A Muslim girl from Nizamabad has translated the Hindu holy book Bhagavad Gita into Urdu. She took up the task after reading various other holy books from different religions recommended to her by her father. She is also writing her own book based upon the similarities between the Quran and the Bhagavad Gita.

Nizamabad (Telangana):Hiba Fatima, a girl from the Rakasipet area of Nizamabad district has translated the most sacred book of Hindus, Bhagavad Gita into Urdu.

Hiba hails from an orthodox Muslim family. Currently a student of B.Ed programme, she has done an in-depth study on Bhagavad Gita with a longing to know about other religions. She also in the process of writing her own book.

Her father Ahmed Khan, a petty businessman who taught her lessons of equality, secularism and humanity since her childhood. He used to make her read holy books of all religions.

She made use of YouTube videos to learn about Bhagavad Gita, but the various interpretations of Gita has only added to her confusion. It was then she finally decided to translate Gita after doing an in-depth study on the book.

Hiba studied in Urdu medium upto intermediate and later in English. In order to undertake a full-fledged study of the Gita, she procured their English, Hindi and Telugu versions.

After going through all of them, she commenced the translation into Urdu, in a way that is easily understood by the youth of her age group.

She translated 700 slokas and 18 Adhyayas (Chapters) of the Gita in three months. While translating Slokas into Urdu, she encountered several problems; struggled to find equivalent meaning of certain words. She also found it difficult to arrange them in a proper sequence.

To explain the essence of both the holy books Bhagavad Gita and Quran, she used a YouTube channel, 'Message for All'. So far, she has posted 80 videos in it.

While studying the Slokas, she realized that in many contexts, their meaning is similar to the āyāts in Quran. She has thus so far identified 500 such Slokas and āyāts.

Elaborating on such similarities between the two holy books, she started writing a book titled 'Similarities between Bhagavad Gita and Quran'.

Hiba says, “All holy books teach us how men should live. I have translated the Gita keeping in mind the youth of my age group. I wish to take up programmes which preach that humanity is the prime religion.”
