Shamshabad is world's most punctual airport: Cirium report

Shamshabad Airport has recorded 90.43 percent on-time performance, stated a report of Cirium

Hyderabad:Shamshabad Airport has bagged the recognition of being the most punctual airport in the world. In a recent report released by the Aviation Analytical Institute Cirium, Shamshabad Airport has recorded 90.43 percent on-time performance (punctuality) in March. This is the only international airport to cross the 90 percent mark in punctuality, the report stated.

Airport officials said on Wednesday that the airport was ranked fourth in the punctuality index in November last year with 88.44 percent on-time performance. Four months later, the airport has climbed to the top position.

Cirium analysed the traffic of 50 lakh flights at international airports across the world in March. Along with punctuality, Shamshabad has performed well in other areas and ranked first in the categories of 'Global Airport' and 'Large Airport'. During the study, the company took into account several factors namely actual departure time, passenger boarding time and airport services.

Deliberating on the achievement, Airport CEO Pradeep Phanikar explained that Shamshabad Airport is the best in these three aspects. He said that steps have been taken to provide a seamless travel experience and ensure that passengers reach their destination on time. He said that the functionality has been improved by implementing new technological innovations from time to time.

Since inception, the airport has come up with many technological innovations. It boasts of an integrated system, a centralized airport operations control center, special information systems for passengers, express security check-in for those without excess baggage, self check-ins, kiosks and video analytics. All these facilities helped the airport to bag the recognition, airport officials added.
