Hyderabad (Telangana): In a humanitarian gesture, the Ramoji Group on Thursday donated Rs five crore towards relief measures in flood-hit Telangana.

Ramoji Group of Companies Chairman Ramoji Rao had announced a donation of Rs five crore for the assistance of victims of heavy rains that battered Telangana over the past few days and the resulting floods.

A representative of the Ramoji Group today handed over the cheque for the amount to Telangana IT and Municipal Minister KT Rama Rao.

Hyderabad and some parts of Telangana had witnessed one of the worst deluges in recent times following unprecedented downpour in over a century. At least 70 people were reported dead.

In Hyderabad, rains led to lakes and other water bodies overflowing with the water inundating several low-lying areas, including parts of the city and its outskirts.

The Telangana government, in a preliminary estimate, had pegged the losses at over Rs 5,000 crore caused due to rains and floods.

Pertinently, Ramoji Rao had donated a sum of Rs 10 crore each to the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Chief Ministers' relief funds to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
