Rachakonda (Telangana):Police in Telangana's Rachakonda have arrested five people in the double murder case of a father and son who were hacked to death in Uppal on Friday. Three more persons involved in the case are absconding.
Those arrested were identified as Likki Vinay Yogendar Reddy alias Vinay (31), Yalla Bala Krishna (33), Lal Jagadesh Goud (36), Ganvaya Ram (56) and Gaikawad Shayam Sundar (42). Vinay was having some issues with the victim Narsimha (75), who was a priest and was hacked to death along with his 45-year-old son, Srinivas in the early hours of Friday at their residence in Hanumannagar in Uppal.
"Vinay frequently visited Narsimha believing that he had spiritual powers and in 2016 paid him Rs 6 lakh to help him in getting a job of police sub-inspector. Narsimha took the money promising to perform a special puja to help him secure the job," a police spokesperson said on Tuesday.
The arrests were made following a complaint on the morning of October 14 at Police Station Uppal by the deceased's neighbour who informed police that at around 6 am, the father-son duo was hacked to death by some unknown persons at their residence.
A case was registered and an investigation was started by the Uppal police station. Soon police with the help of technical leads were able to zero in on the accused and arrest them.
During the subsequent interrogation of the prime accused Vinay, a police spokesman said that it was revealed that in 1991, Vinay's father Parma Yogender Reddy was murdered due to political rivalry at Thukaramgate, Hyderabad.
Vinay along with his elder brother and sisters were brought up at his grandmother’s house at Uppal. His maternal uncle Janga Reddy used to often visit the house of the deceased priest Narsimha for performing pooja. The accused Vinay also used to visit the priest along with his maternal uncle.

Vinay was fascinated by the Pooja of the Narsimha and became superstitious that he can achieve anything with Narsimha's special prayers. Police said that in 2016, Vinay, who had appeared for the Sub-Inspector examination, approached Narsimha to hold a special pooja to secure him the job for which the priest allegedly took Rs 6 lakh.
However, Vinay did not get the job and when he asked the priest to return him his money, the latter dodged the demands. In the meantime, the accused Vinay had also given Rs 13.5 lakh to one Varun, a contractor, who failed to repay the amount. Again, Vinay approached the priest Narsimha requesting him to perform another pooja to get his money back.
Narsimha demanded Rs 40,000 for performing the Pooja. When Varun returned half the amount, the priest took an additional Rs 1.5 lakh from Vinay. In 2019, Vinay again approached the priest saying he is unable to settle in life. The priest told him that his “grahas” are not in his favour and advised him to go abroad and charged Rs 11,000 for performing another Pooja.
While Vinay did go out of India, he had to soon return home in September 2020 due to the COVID pandemic. From March 2021 onwards, Vinay mounted pressure on Narsimha to return his money which was taken by him with a promise of doing Pooja to get an SI job. But Narsimha dragged the matter and started to avoid him.
The accused developed a strong feeling that the priest might have performed black magic on him in order to avoid repaying 6 lakhs. In the meantime, Vinay was arrested in a different case for which he again blamed Narsimha.
Following it, Vinay hatched a plan to kill Narsimha and conspired with four of his accomplices to execute their plan. The accused stayed at Sri Venkateshwara Deluxe Boys hostel situated opposite the house of the priest for a recce.
On October 14, Vinay barged into the house of the priest at 5:45 am when the maid-servant opened the gate. He attacked the priest to death while his accomplice stabbed the priest's son in the chest resulting in their instant death.
After killing, they escaped from the spot and took shelter at different places. Special teams nabbed the five persons while efforts are on to nab the remaining persons.
